Montgomery County Jail Roster

The Montgomery County, Texas jail roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a person is in custody at the county jail. Through MontgomeryCourt.us, you can find publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data is available on the official website of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. The roster is maintained by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and is updated regularly—it reflects individuals currently in custody. This is a transparency tool that allows citizens to track arrests and detention status.

Online Search

  1. Go to MontgomeryCourt.us to search for public court and penitentiary information.
  2. The official inmate roster is hosted on the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office website. The system usually offers a search field where you can enter the last name or booking number.

If the person has been transferred to a state facility, use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate search. For statewide criminal history checks, the Texas DPS offers a Criminal History Name Search.

Find Montgomery Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created when a detained person goes through the jail registration process. This is not the same as a conviction—it's a record of being taken into custody.

During booking, the following information is generated:

  • A unique booking number
  • Date and time of intake
  • Charges filed
  • Arresting agency (city police, sheriff, DPS, etc.)
  • Photo and basic identification data

Most of this data is displayed directly in the online inmate roster. If you need the full booking document, not just the roster entry, submit a public information request according to the Texas Public Information Act. Detailed instructions for submitting such requests are published on the Public Information Requests page of Texas DPS.

It is worth noting separately: booking records pertain only to the county jail. If a person is held by a federal agency, including ICE, information should be sought through the Montgomery Processing Center, which has a separate contact line.

Search the Montgomery Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the person's last name in the appropriate field. If necessary, add the first name to narrow the results. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling—one letter mistake can yield zero results.
  • If the system supports partial search, enter only the first few letters of the last name.
  • Try spelling variations if the last name has a hyphen or apostrophe.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate way to find a specific record. It is usually provided at the time of arrest or noted in documents received from a lawyer or institution. Enter the number in the search field—the system will return one specific record.

What to Do if the Search Yields No Results

  1. Ensure the name is entered correctly, without extra spaces.
  2. The person may not yet be entered into the system—there is a time lag between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the roster.
  3. The person may have already been released, and the record has disappeared from the current roster.
  4. Call the jail at (936) 760-5800 to clarify the status.
  5. If the person has been convicted and transferred to a state facility, check the TDCJ database.

To search for related court records, use the official Montgomery County public records search, which contains documents filed with the county clerk's office.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Montgomery

The inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. Between the time of physical arrest and the appearance of the record in the online system, several hours to a day may pass—depending on the facility's workload and data processing speed.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • The roster shows only those who are currently in custody. It is not an archive of all past arrests.
  • Once a person is released, their record disappears from the roster—sometimes within a few hours.
  • Data entry delays occur, especially on weekends or during mass arrests.
  • Technical issues on the website may temporarily limit access.

If you need historical information about past bookings, submit a written public information request to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. According to the Texas Public Information Act, most adult arrest records are public, although some data—such as medical records or records concerning minors—remain closed.

To check registered sex offenders in the region, use the Texas Sex Offender Registration Program.
